About us

The Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management ... Providing highly qualified and skilled graduates to the hospitality and tourism industry since 1989.

Message from the MD.
Managing Director Alan Williams

Happy New Year and wishing all of our students and clients a prosperous 2008!!

What a great year 2005 was, and with 2006 promising to be even more so I thought I might start off the year re-capping some of the main events of 2005 and provide some outline of major projects in the pipeline for 2006.

In March 2005 we signed a license agreement with ACB to manage and operate the AFTA Travel and Tourism College WA. This agreement extended to our existing courses a number of highly respected and specialised Travel & Tourism courses with direct support from the largest Industry Association in Australia - AFTA Ltd.

In July 2005 we proudly commenced the innaugural Broadwater Business School students in the Certificate IV in Hospitality (Supervision) and a number of other employees throughout the group on the Traineeship and Apprenticeship programs. This unique industry / education partnership between Broadwater Hotels and Resorts, Southern Cross University and the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management was officially announced by the Tourism Minister Hon. Mark McGowan at the TAA trade show held in Perth this year.

In October 2005 we formed our first Perth Industry Advisory Board, with whom we are proud to be working. The innaugural chair, Mr Scott Cogar (MBA), will assist the Industry Advisory Board to provide us direct linkages to industry and government as well as bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will assist us to ensure our courses are always amongst the leading Hotel and Tourism courses available anywhere in the world.

More recently in December 2005, Southern Cross University and the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management signed an agreement with Outrigger On the Lagoon Fiji to provide a range of education and training products to staff of the Outrigger Fiji through the Outrigger On the Lagoon Fiji Business School. This is now the second unique industry / education partnership and continues our trend to offer courses tailored to meet industry needs.

On a further note, a number of our students have once again upheld our great reputation for being the industry leader in WA by winning the key industry competitions and events throughout 2005 including; Jeremiah Bain, who won "CIA (WA) - Student Waiter of the Year" at the Catering Institute of Australia competition held at the Western Australia Club and who later won the Innauural Bill Thompson Youth Achievement Award awarded at the Gold Plate Awards Dinner, Congratulations and keep up the great work!!

We also continued to witness phenominal growth throughout 2005, in the popularity of our Bachelor of Business in Hotel and Resort Management. This highly recognised University degree offered in partnership with Southern Cross University (SCU) is affording graduates significant career / employment opportunities. Take some time to review some of the graduate comments in our webpage. This success we consider will help kick start the new Bachelor of Business in Convention and Event Tourism in 2006.

Finally, I would like to finish by wishing all of our students the very best with their studies and careers throughout 2006 and a warm welcome to new local and international students who will commence with us throughout the year. Tourism in Australia is big news and during 2006 will continue to provide a sustainable future for our graduates.

Yours in Education and Training

Around the World with ASTHM
Director International Marketing Dianne Leslie

2007 was an extremely busy time for the International Marketing Department with 8 overseas visits to a number of different countries to promote ASTHM and Eurocentres Perth.  The School’s international student body currently represents 51 countries and a wide range of marketing activities is conducted each year to showcase Perth as a premier study destination as well as promoting careers in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Lise Williams, the School’s Admissions Manager is also assisting with the marketing and promotion of the School in the South East Asian Region and has visited Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia already this year.

I’ll be setting off again soon to participate in a number of events including Trade Fairs, Seminars and Interview Sessions which will enable potential students to meet with me in India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Turkey.

So now as we begin 2008, I am looking forward to welcoming our new international students who will be joining us in February and wish them happiness and success as they begin their studies at ASTHM.

Until next time….

Dianne Leslie
Director – International Marketing
